Today, GaPO4 is probably by far the best suited piezoelectric material to be used in sensor applications. It has a combination of several unique properties that makes it first choice.
It has twice the sensitivity of quartz and tourmaline and an unparalleled stability of many physical constants up to a limiting temperature close to 1000°C! The outstanding stability of GaPO4 piezo-properties in combination with its intrinsically high electrical resistance gives us the ability to produce transducers that show excellent sensing behaviors up to extreme temperatures and pressures. Moreover, the purely piezoelectric properties without any pyroelectric component enable heat shock resistant transducers. In combination with the inherent material rigidity, GaPO4 allows for excellent signal qualities in very compact designs.
